SettingUpGroupAddress

Setting up a new group address

While adding a new group address or modifying an existing one, you can set a couple parameters. An example is shown in the image on the right. The group "0/0/77" is stands for a lamp. If "Readable" is set to, this object is read by OR KNX after connecting to the gateway. "Depends on" lists other group addresses which effect this group too, e.g. a "all lamps" group for a single lamp. The type can be choosen on a second view from more than 30 different types of objects - predefined ones with typical combinations of types/texts/icons or generic ones with KNX DPT data types which allow you to freely choose appendices and icons.

Just a quick comment about a problem discussed at the Amsterdam event (06/03/09) concerning update of status while performing a "read". There is a few flags for each objects using ETS :

    • Communcation
    • Read
    • Write
    • Transmit
    • Update
    • Read on init

As it seems iKNX uses "groupValueRead" requests, it is important to turn off the "update" flag. It will avoid devices connected to a group address to update their status from the "quickest" answer while performing a read.
